![Not eating enough or cutting carbs too aggressively increases cortisol (the stress hormone) and may impair recovery. The way I like to visualise it is that the cortisol increases because its job is to get glucose into the bloodstream for energy and jobs in the body. Low energy intake reduces glycogen stores (your 'stored glucose'), delaying muscle repair and reducing training performance. This affects runners, gym-goers, and busy professionals alike.
Personalised nutrition matters, everyone’s needs are different; guessing can backfire. [On a longer term it can have real health issues (look up RED-S - relative energy deficiency in sport)]
SO if someone has told you to 'train fasted' to lose fat or that you need a 'running weight' or 'fighting weight', have they asked you how stressed your life is too?
They might have, and you might have said 'its fine'.
But if you aren't seeing progress, have a full on job, kids, puppy, project deadlines, older parents, maybe perimenopause, have a social life, training goals too and maybe still have some unwanted belly fat then your body might actually benefit from some more fuel or a bit of nourishment from supplements and specific foods (then maybe a bit of fasted training 'might' be useful.
